I did it!!!

My best-friend, Kim and I have been walking and running since June. I talked her into signing up for our local 5K marathon. Our original intentions where to run the entire 5K, we had to restructure our plan. We decided that we would run when we could and walk when we needed to catch our breath.

This morning was our 5K. I shared with Kim that my ego was hoping that we wouldn't come in dead last. She told me that as long as we finished the race, then we could be proud. I agreed that her thoughts were better, but I was still pleased that people were still behind us! We both agreed that we wanted to pass the finish line running, and she had to encourage me a little bit at the end because my breathing was very labored. We did it, though! I heard the announcer announce my name as we approached the finish line. I'm not sure if I heard Kim's or not. There were two photographers, so I'm hoping that they will upload our photos. We hugged each other at the end of the race. We did it! We are 5K finishers!!!! I am super proud of the two of us.

I was never sure if actually running a 5K was a pipe dream or not, but I knew that I wanted to do it. I signed myself up when it was time and just knew that no matter what happened, I had to complete this race. I want to do it again with my kids and I hope to run the entire time. It's only 3.1 miles, so I could do it. I feel so motivated!!!

Our stats:

I was 1136 out of 1195 racers. My time was 53.50 minutes. In my age group, I was 97 out of 100. I was 650 out of the 689 women racing.

Kim was 1137 out of 1195 racers. Her time was 53.51 minutes. In her age group, she was 63 out of 67. She was 651 out of 689 the women racing.

We both received a medal, a real racing shirt, and an official reusable bag.

I forgot to mention that it was pouring rain while we ran. Our shoes and socks were soaking wet. Her sweat pants were drenched from her thighs down, the lower part of my shorts were wet, our hats and hair was also dripping wet. We both had long sleeve shirts on under our racing shirts and the sleeves were sopping wet. We wore ponchos, but they wouldn't stay on our head and didn't cover our entire arms. Plus, it was super cold.

I am so proud of the two of us.
