Proud Mama

My boy was very sweet and wanted to raise money to buy Bethany a Nintendo 3DS for Christmas.  He and Tessa conspired and came up with a game plan.  He was able to raise the money before Bethany's 8th birthday, so she got it on her birthday.  She was thrilled!!!  Kyle felt like a million bucks.

For the last few Christmases, we were doing the "Want, Need, Read, and Wear".   The kids got one from each category, but it still seemed like the kids still received a bunch of gifts.  They appreciated the gifts, but our house can only hold so much stuff.  After last Christmas and seeing the kids packed bedrooms, I decided that I would create memories than clutter.  We are going on a family trip during their Christmas break.  They don't know where we are going, but they are excited that we are going somewhere.  We are going on a cruise with two other families that we know.  It will be so much fun.

This Christmas, I told the kids that Santa will still come and probably just bring them one present each and then fill their stockings.  I told them that the trip is my present to them, but I would buy them one gift.  Something deep inside of me has a desire to help other people.  I want to give back to others.  I told the kids that I planned on buying them a $40 gift, but would they rather take that money and buy something for sick kids at the hospital, the hospital where Luke had his cancer surgery.  They thought about it for a day and both agreed that they would like to use the money for the kids with cancer.  Oh, they melt my heart!  The three of us went to Walmart, so they could pick out toys.  At first, Kyle wanted to buy Nerf guns, but I didn't think it was appropriate.  They picked out small gifts that cost under $5, so they could buy more that way.  I told them that I would pay the sales tax.  We spent just under $100, and I think it's worth it.  Bethany said that she feels so good inside and gave me a big hug.  She counted that 10 girls will get presents because of her!  Kyle has 9 boy presents and 1 girl present.  We will drive down to the hospital and drop the gifts off.  For health reasons and safety reasons, we can only drop them off, but we can't meet the children.

I love my kids!
